Cessna 172 Take-off and Landing – Statesville, NC

Posted in Planes | 22 comments

Today I took my sister and two of her friends up to look at the lake by my parents house. The airport in the video is Statesville Regional Airport (KSVH), in NC, and the airplane is a Cessna 172 (N737YF). At the time of the video, I had 64 hours of total flight time logged. NOTE: I have not flown significantly since filming this video. My experience with flying is still small, relative to most pilots.

  1. Nice Flying. Thanks for the Video. Very cool -

  2. what in-flight calculations did you have to do (ground speed, fuel burn, etc?)…also when you diverted, how did you pinpoint your position at the time of the diversion?

  3. how much it cost with this plane???

  4. That was a fine landing.

  5. Why turn down the sound? We enjoy the sound of the engine.

  6. kinda sounds like a ford escort on the highway ( engine noise wise)

  7. @goinflyin33 My checkride was a nightmare. I was under time constraints to take the checkride (mistake), and so I ended up going on a day when there was a lot of wind (mistake). I did horrible on holding altitude in turns and low speed configurations because of wind/terrain interactions, but I passed the test because of having great knowledge and making a great crosswind landing.

My tip is to test in good weather. You’re being tested to make sure you can fly safe, so be calm and collected too.

  8. @Dobiecx The best thing to do would be to call or go to the airport where you would get your training at and ask them what things you should get to prepare yourself. If your looking for specifics though, I would recommend getting the Jeppesen Private Pilot Manual. That manual is a textbook, but if you take the time to understand each sentence, then you will be very well prepared.

  9. @Phillip095 how long did it take, start to finish, to get your license? I’ve just started researching getting a license. Thinking about starting in the summer. Any tips on preparing or books to start with?

  10. was the checkride easier or harder than you expected? i lose sleep at night worrying about the damn checkride

  11. i get my license in 11 months when i turn 17! cant wait to fly

  12. Great video! Im working on my private out of Smith Reynolds airport in Winston-Salem, and Ive done a few touch and goes at statesville. Best wishes with flying! :) hope to see some more videos!

  13. @210482fmj You have a LOOOTT of physics to learn.

  14. hot pilot

  15. awesome landing there brother. As they say Any landing you can walk away from is a good one

  16. hey Phillip 18 und ein flugzeug fliegem super ! das gibts in deutschland bestimmt nicht machs es echt guter weiter so

  17. @Phillip095 Wow man flying a plane at age 18 good for you. Wish i could do that. You will go far.

  18. Just curious, why do you use “statesville traffic” each time and the full “737 yankee foxtrot” why not shorten the end of it to “statesville” and the tail number to “7 yankee foxtrot”?

  19. Звук включи

  20. Just wonderful! I’ll bet your passengers didn’t know that you wanted to land on those landing lines that pilots shoot for. And the screech of the wheels probably enhanced the experience. I thought it was pretty perfect. Would love to try powered flight someday if it doesn’t get priced out of my range before I retire. Really enjoyed the video. Hope to see a X-contry. from an old hang glider pilot…

  21. @planeking6 yes, diffrent exsperience altogether!, but really fun!, you do wear headsets which helps block out the noise but there mainly there so you can comunicate to others in the plane and atc

  22. could they make an aircraft the size of a cessna 172 much faster but still the same size roughly? could a cessna 172 handle a jet engine? jet engines can be made very small and powerful. with increased speed and range and extra fuel tanks and more powerful engines you could fly further. in aviation there seems little point in making airplanes slower rather than faster.
